Illinois Pocket Watch

I service and repair mechanical watches.

Whether it’s your daily beater in need of its regular 5-yearly service, or a family heirloom that you’d like to get running for a special occasion, I can help. I take an artisanal approach to watchmaking, so your watch is treated with the respect it deserves.

Vintage watches are always a challenge! Many of the watches that I work on are close to 100 years old - parts are hard to find, and some watches have been serviced dozens of times, with varying degrees of quality.

Every watch is different, but here are some guideline prices for watch servicing. Parts and additional work to repair specific defects will cost more. We will agree a price before commencing any repair work. Although I specialize in vintage mechanical watches, I am happy to repair quartz watches too. Prices include VAT.

“Servicing” a watch means the watch is stripped down, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, reassembled, and adjusted. If it is a modern watch it will be pressure-tested to ensure water resistance to manufacturer’s stated depth rating. If a watch is not running it may mean that the watch needs more attention than that covered by standard servicing.

Watches can be returned by post for an additional cost. I strive to complete repairs within two weeks, although this may depend on availability of parts and the complexity of the job. Note that many of the major Swiss watch brands limit availability of spare parts to independent watchmakers.
